OPM Music vs. Trashy Noise

Let’s face it. There’s a big difference between music and trashy noise and… Ok, so you might think I just hate Filipino music, but no. I’m just expressing what I feel. This is my blog, remember?

Anyway, the OPM is again in the news, thanks to Congressman Teddy Brawner Baguilat and his House Bill 4218, also known as OPM Development Act of 2014. Obviously, the purpose of the bill is to help our dying music industry. Well, the purpose is good, but wait… He wants foreign performers to pay P5, 000 per show while foreign musicians, instrumentalists and backup vocalists pay P4, 000 a show? So he wants foreign artists to carry the burden why a lot of Filipinos now a day are more into foreign artists than Filipinos eh? Is this guy not listening to the radio lately?

Just think. Why would ordinary people like me spend more money on foreign artists compare to our local talents? Hey! It's our rights to watch and listen to quality shows and music.
I remember when Filipino Music was something nice to hear. Those were the 80’s. While most foreign music were dominated by the likes of Madonna and Cindi Lauper, European bands like Spandau Ballet, Duran-Duran and Tears For Fears - here in the Philippines, you can hear the music of Basil Valdez, Nonoy Zuñiga, Hadji Alejandro, Florante,  Zsa Zsa Padilla, Janet Basco, Dulce and Celeste Legaspi. It was also the time of Pops Fernandez and Martin Nievera and groups like The New Minstrels and The Company. Now who can forget their music?

I also think that it has something to do with the composer, like the Maestro himself, Mr. Ryan Cayabyab.

Now on that time, being a singer is not just a pretty face. It’s an art. That’s why they’re called artists.

It's not only the singers (who has quite a talent when it come to singing) but also on the songs they sing. It's memorable, it has essence and sense. It's meaningful.

What kind of music do we have right now?

GARBAGE!

We got a lot of Korean and Japanese rip-offs. Shitty noise disguising as "Pinoy Rap." What's worst? Jejemon music ( jejemon, yeah, whatever that means - my gulay! The Urban Dictionary defines jejemon as "trying-hard Filipino gangsters and emos. A Jejemon can also include a variety of Latino-Hispanic fags who enjoy typing "jejejejeje" in a wider context, much to the disdain of their opponents in an internet MMORPG game such as Ragnarok and DOTA.)

You call that music?  Disgusting!

Also, thanks to these stupid TV stations like the Kapuso, Kapamilya and Kapatid Networks and their "talent" mill - we now have a lot of talentless artists. They became an artist because of their "looks,"  not their talents. What's worse, these guffaws are trying to enter the Philippine airwaves with their disgusting songs. (Gwaaarrrkk!) PARANG AWA NYO NA PO! IHINTO NYO NA YAN DAHIL HINDI NAMAN PO KAYO MARUNONG KUMANTA!!!

Not everyone can sing, just like not everyone can become a painter or a sculptor. So, if most of our singers right now are just a bunch of good-looking baloneys, then why do you expect Filipinos to pay a ticket worth let say, P1, 000.00 just to hear bottle caps being scratched on the floor or a chalk scraping on a blackboard?

Please Cong. Teddy Brawner Baguilat, for the love of something decent, giving foreign artists higher tax will not fix our dying music industry. What we need are real talents, real composers, new ideas, real music, just like the good old days.
